Home Health and Home Care providers are subject to an uncountable number of laws and regulations. The sector's larger organizations typically employ in-house council or keep a law firm on retainer. But what about startups and agencies whose owners are content with operating a single location with a handful of employees rather than growing into a multi-state enterprise? Attorney fees can be difficult to manage, if not prohibitive.
Angelo Spinola, a familiar face at home care conferences, and Linda Kraus Donev, co-founder, with her brother, of Stratis Business Systems before they sold it to MatrixCare, caught up with us at last month's Home Care 100 conference in Scottsdale to tell us about a new offering to help small agencies meet that cost challenge. Spinola is an Atlanta-based attorney and Shareholder and Practice Chair for Home Health, Home Care and Hospice with Polsinelli, an Am Law 100 firm with 900 attorneys in 21 offices nationwide.
"Polsinelli Online Solutions has developed a way to align the traditional legal documents in-home care agencies need with a state-of-the-art technology platform," Spinola told us. "A searchable database directs the subscriber to the documents they need in boilerplate form, but also allows them to customize them so they appear in print as though they were written by an attorney specifically for one organization."
She added that the online service does not stop there. "Downloadable documents include legal guidance as well, customized to a specific healthcare sector and area of law," she continued. "Subscribers can read current legal news and the firm's analysis of issues that impact a home health, home care, or hospice business. There are on-demand trainings available, and subscribers are invited to exclusive events."
As a new service, Linda Kraus Donev explained, many planned features are currently in "coming soon" status, but that changes almost daily. As of this writing, planned and available documents and services include:
The next Polsinelli event is titled "The Provider’s Perspective on Effective Compliance Strategies for the Consumer-Directed Model." It is set for Wednesday, March 23, at 2:00 - 3:15 EDT. Promotional materials say the webinar will feature a panel of operators from various Consumer-Directed Care Delivery models about the strategies and programs they have implemented across multiple jurisdictions to stay legally compliant.
Interested parties can obtain more details and request an online demo of the service at online.polsinelli.com/solutions/Home.
