Volume 10, Number 44 — June 2, 2021
Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,
We come bearing multiple technology solutions this week, products that we believe will be useful to every category of post-acute, in-home care provider.
Is your issue missed visits due to unreported hospital admissions? There's an app for that.
How about the waste of inflated mileage reports? We found an app for that too.
Do you struggle to keep primary care physicians, hospital doctors, family members, and your own various clinical and non-clinical disciplines in the loop about every patient need and event? There is even an app for that.
Have you ever wondered how to partner your not-for-profit company with a federally qualified health center? Well, there's no app for that, but we do have an inspiring story about how a Minnesota provider made it happen, including bringing the advantages of home telehealth to the equation.

Both non-medical and skilled nursing providers will be interested in the newly released software system from a company called "PatientPing." Their customers may never again inadvertently send a caregiver or nurse to an empty house. We learned about the product, "Ping," created by a former CMMI analyst, while investigating their announcement that they were just acquired by Appriss Health. You will learn a lot from our interview with founding CEO Jay Desai.
Guest author Tony Onaissi gives us a detailed argument in favor of the use of GPS-enabled, sales team efficiency apps. Click on "Tools to Ensure Sales Team Efficiency."
"Rainbow Health" is a brand-new spinoff of global digital innovation company "MobiSoft InfoTech." This venture into healthcare is a digital reporting system that keeps the entire care team, including referring physicians, family doctors, and family members, in the patient care loop. The best part? Rainbow is selling the concept to payers so you don't have to. Read our interview with Chief Strategy Officer Ayushi Patel.
Underserved populations in Minnesota will be getting better care thanks to the partnership between the state's largest not-for-profit, in-home care provider and Minnesota Community Care, a St. Paul-based clinic that provides full-service health care for all people regardless of income or insurance status. At the core of the partnership is homecare-assisted telehealth appointments and in-home care management provided to the federally qualified health center by Accra.
Be sure to scroll down beyond this week's headlines to check our updated list of conferences. We are so pleased that some of them will be in person, we are vaccinated and trying to attend as many as we can. We miss seeing your shining faces.
Have a great week. Stay healthy and keep making a difference!

Description: In addition to routine annual payment changes, CMS proposed FY2024 Hospice Payment Rule, issued on March 31, contains valuable updates on the Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP). Perhaps most notable, the rule's deep dive into utilization trends signals an intensified interest in hospice care patterns, potentially inappropriate behavior in the hospice sector, and program integrity concerns. Join two of NAHC's hospice experts as they detail proposed changes, including a new requirement that hospice certifying physicians be Medicare enrolled (or to have validly opted-out) and CMS' Requests for Information on hospice utilization and health equity, and examine their potential impact on hospice practice going forward.

Audio-Conference Description: Home care providers of all types; including home health agencies, private duty agencies, hospices and HME companies; remain targets of audits by various regulators, including but certainly not limited to United Program Integrity Contractors (UPICs). The results of these audits can be devastating because they may threaten the ability of providers to remain in business, especially when overpayments are extrapolated to millions of dollars. Audits of all types must be taken seriously and providers must take action to close audits as quickly as possible! The first thing providers must do is to review records requested by auditors.
- What must providers do when reviews show deficiencies in documentation?
- When and how can providers amend or supplement records prior to submission to auditors?
- Should providers send summaries to auditors along with patient records?
The purpose of this teleconference is to give providers detailed steps to follow to avoid adverse consequences of audits. Examples of common issues targeted by auditors will be provided and there will be time for questions and answers.
