Volume 12, Number 25 — June 14, 2023
Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,
There is a lot going on this week. Here are two loosely kept secrets about how to plow through one of our issues when it is overstuffed with news. Look through the headlines below and pick the articles that have more meaning to you. When you click on a headline, you will be directed to the sub-topic page on our web site in which that article is stored. You will see the story you clicked on, plus headlines for all our archived articles within that topic area. To change topic areas, or to go to the main page, use the topic wheel toward the top of the page.
Secret #2: if you find an article that deserves deeper exploration, use our search engine. It can be accessed from the home page or from any topic page. Type in one to three key words, click “search now,” and all articles that contain those words, either in the headline or the body of the text, will rise to the top of the list.

While we continue to focus on technology issues you want to learn – those that help with staff recruiting and retention and the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, we also attended two high-level conferences in the past two weeks and are still processing all we learned. We will bring it to you a little at a time, including profiles of new technology vendors with great plans to improve your patient outcomes or streamline your operations or raise satisfaction scores, or all of the above.
We also found a scathing report on hospice abuses, which we summarize this week for you, along with a plethora of URLs for your further study of the problem. You will find it a combination of a little good and quite a bit of bad news for that sector.
Staff writer Heather Thompson continues to delve into the mysteries of Chat-GPT and GPT-4 this week. She is getting better and better at querying the tools and accomplishing two important results. We are learning about the capabilities of AI and about the ways it can be -- and should not be -- deployed in healthcare. Personally, I have learned a lot from her research, and I hope you are benefiting as well.
The coming weeks will feature some summer travel opportunities, at least one of which will match your needs. The NAHC Financial Managers Conference is set for July 16-18 in New Orleans. "Bring Care Home" is the theme for the annual conference of the Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice, August 28-31 in San Antonio. If we missed one, write to us and we will add your announcement to our next issue.
Have a great week. Keep making a difference!
