SPECIAL EDITION:

"If We Had Met You in New Orleans"

Our sponsors sent us the messages they had planned for last October's NAHC Conference and Expo.
If not for COVID and Ida, here is what you would have learned.

Seniors Home Services

wanted to tell you about "Connected Home Monitoring," a new kind of telehealth program that returns revenue to Home Health and Home Care agencies. Click here to see the banner that would have been displayed in their New Orleans booth. Claims include increased Medicare revenue per patient without increasing visits; an impressive, 89 percent reduction in rehospitalizations; improved CAHPS and LUPA scores and star ratings; and a ramp up to Value Based Purchasing. The banner includes testimonies from consultant Arlene Maxim, RN, HCS-C, and Sean Fossee, CEO of Custom Home Health in Troy, Michigan. SHS offers other services, including home modification, fall-risk analysis, and a brain training program to enhance memory function.

KanTime

was all set to tell you in New Orleans about steps they are taking to help you deal with all the changes the past year brought. At their exhibit hall booth, you would have heard, "PDGM, NOA, and caregiver burnout have been a hot topic for the past couple of months. To help agencies learn more about these topics, KanTime has provided a few resources on the transition from PDGM No-Pay RAPs to PDGM NOA and how agencies can avoid caregiver burnout.

"KanTime knows how important it is for agencies to have the right EMR to help them deliver quality patient care around the clock. KanTime's EVP, Kristen Duell, and HealthRev Partners teamed up on a podcast to discuss the importance of choosing the right EMR for your agency. Our agency management software and hospice platform are built from the ground up, making them configurable for you to focus on what matters: the patients. Take a look at our product software guide to learn "How Better Happens."

Netsmart

This sponsor's NAHC message was "What you need to know to future proof your agency in 2022"

"Modern problems require modern solutions," they were prepared to say. "From staffing shortages to risk-based payment models, 2022 will require agencies to uncover new ways to solve complex business needs. Now more than ever, home health and hospice organizations must deploy a digital-first strategy to meet the increasing demands of payers and patients. Click here to learn how Netsmart can help put you on a modern digital playing field, so you can achieve stable, scalable transformation.

National Minority Health Association

The association managing the federal grant known as Flex For Checks wanted to thank every agency and every home care worker that signed up to participate and receive cash rewards for getting and encouraging COVID shots. The program was such a huge success, the NMHA received permission from the Health Resources and Services Administration to keep the payments going for an extra month. That means there is still time to get your employees some extra Holiday Season cash. If you are already a participant, get every vaccine certification card since July 1 scanned and uploaded before grant funds are exhausted. If you have not signed up, you still can but you had better hurry. Go to FlexForChecks.com today!

As other sponsors respond to our request for their NAHC exhibit hall messages, we will bring them to you in upcoming issues. Have a great week. Keep making a difference!

Featuring: Theresa Forster, Katie Wehri

Date: April 11

Description: In addition to routine annual payment changes, CMS proposed FY2024 Hospice Payment Rule, issued on March 31, contains valuable updates on the Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP). Perhaps most notable, the rule's deep dive into utilization trends signals an intensified interest in hospice care patterns, potentially inappropriate behavior in the hospice sector, and program integrity concerns.  Join two of NAHC's hospice experts as they detail proposed changes, including a new requirement that hospice certifying physicians be Medicare enrolled (or to have validly opted-out) and CMS' Requests for Information on hospice utilization and health equity, and examine their potential impact on hospice practice going forward.

Faculty: Theresa M. Forster, NAHC VP for Hospice Policy & Programs
Katie Wehri, NAHC Director of Home Health & Hospice Regulatory Affairs

Audio-Conference Description: Home care providers of all types; including home health agencies, private duty agencies, hospices and HME companies; remain targets of audits by various regulators, including but certainly not limited to United Program Integrity Contractors (UPICs). The results of these audits can be devastating because they may threaten the ability of providers to remain in business, especially when overpayments are extrapolated to millions of dollars. Audits of all types must be taken seriously and providers must take action to close audits as quickly as possible! The first thing providers must do is to review records requested by auditors.

The purpose of this teleconference is to give providers detailed steps to follow to avoid adverse consequences of audits. Examples of common issues targeted by auditors will be provided and there will be time for questions and answers.
