Volume 12, Number 36 — October 18, 2023
Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,
We are between trips this week, so our news is coming to you a few days late, and will again next week as we head to Chicago for the annual HCAOA Conference. Kristin and I share our highlights of the 2023 NAHC Annual Convention & Expo below. Stay tuned for in-depth articles from some of the last week's presenters.
Exclusion Screening
In recent weeks, we published two articles describing the requirement that Home Health agencies and Hospices, for that matter all Medicare providers, perform an OIG Exclusion Screening on all employees every month. That burdensome frequency is dictated by how often clinicians and other employees can be eligible to work in a Medicare certified agency one month and somehow disqualify themselves the next month. Due to the expense of running these screenings so often, many providers, sadly, put themselves at great risk by doing it sporadically.
As a service to our readers, we have found a 3rd-party service that does the screenings at a fraction of the cost of doing it yourself. Before you are dinged, or worse, excluded from Medicare, do yourself a favor and read about this service in this week's issue. Click here or scroll down to read "OIG Express Can Save Your Agency."

NAHC 2023 Message: Advocacy Only Way to Stop CMS From Destroying Half of HHAs

Conducting OIG Exclusion Screening is Not Just A Best Practice
Conducting OIG exclusion screening is essential for legal compliance, fraud prevention, patient safety, and financial stability. It is a fundamental step in maintaining the integrity of your organization and avoiding severe consequences for non-compliance.
The Agency of the Future: Art, Health, and Innovation
Rooted in a 2019 WHO report, the series explores the substantial impact of the arts on health and well-being, spanning from prevention to treatment across various conditions.

Risk of Violence on the Rise
The Office for Civil Rights and Health and Human Services provided resources to minimize risk. Violence in the workplace for in-home care providers is on the rise.
