HEALTHCARE AT HOME:
THE  ROWAN TECHNOLOGY REPORT

Serving the home health, home care and hospice industry since 1999.

Axxess is hosting a PDGM Seminar tour in nine cities across the U.S. with experts from several different companies. What is different about this educational opportunity is they have opened it up to any home care agency and the focus is on how to navigate PDGM through actions and strategies. We caught up with Tammy Ross, MHA, BSN, RN, CCM, Senior Vice President, Professional Services, Axxess to learn more about why the company was taking on such an initiative.

"We continued to hear that agencies were looking for more when it came to PDGM," she told us. "There was a lot of information about what the regulations were and theories about the impact to the industry, but limited content about specifics on what to do. We wanted to help by pulling together experts with a sole focus on meeting the need of PDGM through real actions and strategies agencies could put into practice."

"What is different about these seminars," she further explained, "is the focus of our speakers and the collaboration/networking on operational actions for PDGM verses what it is. One example that demonstrates this, we have wound care experts and physical therapists that will discuss how to build a successful program under PDGM. These therapies benefit our elderly population because understanding how best to deliver these services while growing your organization under PDGM are key to the patient outcomes Medicare is after."

One-day seminars to focus on the following learning objectives:

  • PDGM impact numbers that matter most, along with operational strategies to ensure proper reimbursement
  • Specific actions to take for each PDGM risk factor, including coding, non-groupable diagnoses, LUPA avoidance and management, chronic care management, and therapy management
  • How to drive growth for your organization through institutional referral strategies and the use of specialty programs, including wound care and complex nursing

Including specifics such as:

  • How to get the most important OASIS information you need in five minutes
  • Implementing maintenance therapy programs and telemonitoring
  • Setting up visit schedules that prevent avoidable LUPAs
  • How each component of PDGM builds the case weight
  • Restructuring intake processes to obtain necessary billing information

"The speakers participating have real experience within an agency or in assisting agencies prepare for PDGM," Ross continued. "We chose nine locations across the U.S. to bring this knowledge to the agencies needing it most. We are pleased that these seminars have been so well received across the industry and at this time we anticipate two hundred plus attendees at each location."

"We wanted to support the industry and give back, which is what we feel we are doing. Additionally, each attendee will earn seven ANCC continuing education credits for attendance." She wanted to emphasize, "This is open to all home care agencies that are looking to learn strategies and thrive under PDGM well into the future.
