Volume 9, Number 50 — July 15, 2020
Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,
According to a July 14 report by research and advisory company Gartner, businesses looking beyond the COVID-19 pandemic are going to be facing a new kind of challenge: managing a new kind of highly complicated, hybrid workforce. The study found that 82% of business leaders say their organizations plan to let employees continue to work from home at least some of the time, while 47% plan to allow employees to do so permanently.
How about you? We would like to know our thinking on this issue. Is working from home working? Are you going to continue it after the pandemic subsides? Tell us in this week's brief, anonymous, 4-question survey. It will take you about two minutes to complete and we urge you to do so. We will publish the results in an early August issue. Click here to begin the 2-minute survey.
Private Duty Home Care: How do you deal with competition? TV ads? Yellow Page ads? Does your next client's adult daughter 1,000 miles away see them? In his ongoing series about how to bolster your online reputation to attract more phone calls from that adult daughter, Roger McManus explains, in detail, how to solicit and manage online reviews. He includes an argument to avoid paying for Google ads. If staying ahead of your competition is an issue, don't miss "Let Your Customers Write Your Advertising."

Medicaid Providers: Another state has finalized its EVV decision. Congratulations to New York Medicaid for allowing home care providers to choose their own EVV vendor, as long as it can integrate with a data aggregator. Details in "NY State Announces "Choice" Model for EVV."
Watch out and be prepared! The Kaiser Family Foundation has determined that COVID-related unemployment is going to make millions more people eligible for Medicaid. Is your state going to be able to handle the influx? Are you? Read Darcey Trescone's analysis of the problem in "Potential Payer Changes and Considerations."

Medicare Providers: Another CMS rule relaxation to help you cope with the pandemic is the we-hope-it's-not-temporary provision allowing Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to sign home health documents. If you have weaned yourself from that bastion of 1980's technology, the fax machine, one of our industry's electronic signature software vendors has already released a version for documents signed by NPs and PAs. See our interview with SutureHealth founder Dr. Michael Blackstone.
PDGM: Wound care took on new importance this year. Homecare Homebase users and those considering signing on with them will be happy to learn of the Dallas-based vendor's new partnership with Swift Medical, a wound care software company with offices in Toronto and Chicago. See "Vendor Watch: Swift Medical Integrates Digital Wound Care Solution with Homecare Homebase."

FREE WEBINAR: Can you collect Cash faster?Sponsored by: Savii
Date: Tuesday, January 12
Time: 2:00 pm EST
With small margins in home care it has prompted the question, “Can we collect cash faster?” And what would this do for an agency? One thing we know is margins are small and have become more challenging than ever to for agencies to profit. This doesn’t mean it impossible for agencies to survive; it means a focus on collecting cash faster will be ever so important.
Agency leaders will first need to develop a timeline cadence of when to address claims based on when they were submitted for payment. In addition it will be pertinent to understand their own agency metrics such as DSO (Daily Sales Outstanding) and how they compare to industry standards.
On this webinar you will walk away with how to develop a timeline and your own DSO dashboard for benchmarking. All of these topics will weave into strategic steps to take toward collecting cash flow faster.
