Volume 8, Number 43 May  8, 2019

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

First, a reminder. Click on "Listen" above for a podcast briefing on this week's headlines, brought to you courtesy of Kantime.

Mergers and acquisitions continue at record pace, both among post-acute care providers and the technology vendors that serve them. This week's chapter is about one of the largest software companies acquiring one of the largest consulting firms. See the details in "Netsmart Acquires Healthcare Advisory Firm McBee."

For years, we have been watching the tea leaves and predicting that market forces would change the way home telehealth companies operate. It is beginning to happen. After years of not being able to sell enough systems and services to home health and home care, telehealth vendors are giving up on us and turning their efforts to large hospital systems, ACOs, and even payers. This means you will be seeing patients and families saying, "No, thank you, I don't need home health after discharge. The hospital is sending their nurse to my house with a telehealth device."

We looked into this phenomenon and found a population health program originated by Philips. Though set to launch in July, they have some good from pilot programs in New York and Philadelphia. Don't miss our interview with Nikki Buchanan in "Philips Redefines Remote Patient Management."

In other news this week, Brightree has joined the Commonwell Health Alliance Network. This is an important trend. We will be paying close attention to the movement toward data interoperability for the rest of this year. It is a topic critical to both Medicare and non-medical in-home care providers.

We also have the call-in details and agenda items for next week's CMS Open Door Forum for Home Health and Hospice. We also are sure you know that this is National Nurses Week. I am taking the opportunity to remind you of the high esteem in which I hold nurses, so we have reprinted a brief history of the ANA in this week's issue. I always tell my audiences when I visit state and national association meetings and vendor user groups how appreciative I am of the home health and hospice nurses who took such great care of both of my parents, enabling both of them to spend their final days in the home they bought in 1951. So, happy National Nurses Week, and thank you all.

I look forward to seeing my Colorado readers next week in Beaver Creek at the annual meeting of the Home Care Association of Colorado. I'll be showing my system to help provider companies become more competitive by building their online reputation. Come to my booth and say hello.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!
