Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

The Feds are throwing more money at Medicare providers. Some of it you need to ask for; some will just show up in your bank account. Some you have to pay back, some you do not. We have done our best to sort it out for you. This week's report cites announcements from CMS and Palmetto that describe the automatic payments in detail. Look for them soon.

Perhaps more importantly, Medicare and private duty providers alike need to learn a new way to control cash flow, including revenue and costs. Staff writer Darcey Trescone, RN, interviewed BKD Partner Mark Sharp following his company's national webinar on coping with being forced to manage a home health agency differently. His advice in "Cash is King!" on how to change your thinking about business planning comes at the right time.

To help, we also reprint the entire HHS description of the CARES Act Relief Fund. This is the automatic payment plan that will land in your bank account with you having to apply for it. The amount a Medicare provider receives will depend on recent claims volume.

 

 

Lastly, we found a research paper published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that should be enlightening to all healthcare providers that deal with insurance companies. The study of sources of waste in healthcare found several culprits. You will not be surprised to learn which one wastes the most money.
