Volume 9, Number 23 April  1, 2020

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

We continue our series of podcasts in this issue with an interview that private duty home care providers will find inspiring. Home care agency owner Cheryl Fox implemented a patient communications and engagement system that has brought excitement – not to mention revenue – to her San Francisco Bay Area agency. Click the "Listen" button above to hear her stories of patients' lives improved, even saved, and about her skyrocketing satisfaction scores and measurable ROI.

I'll make this week's summary brief so you can get right to the news items below that interest you most. There is something for everyone this week.

For providers of non-medical, personal care services, we reprint an announcement by the Department of Homeland Security about a relaxation of rules regarding I-9 forms when hiring care workers. We learned of this new rule during our interview with MedFlyt. The New York company's app streamlines the process of scheduling caregivers to fill shifts, and delivers educational videos.

For both home care and home health providers, be sure to read attorney Elizabeth Hogue's reminders and laws regarding patient abandonment, especially timely these days. We have been flooded with news from vendors wanting us to tell you about new products and services and special discounts or even completely free offers. We are trying to bring them to you a few at a time so as not to overwhelm. This week, in addition to the MedFlyt app, we spoke with two executives from Netsmart about the free COVID screening tool for patients and staff, and the deep discounts they negotiated with their telehealth partner, AmWell. We also interviewed Forcura and Client Sidekick about help the document management and data analytics company and electronic document signature company, respectively, are providing at no charge to their customers.

For everyone: We interviewed Bill Engelbrecht, a Florida home health agency owner who grew tired of hoping "someone would do something" and decided to run for Congress himself. A 32-year home health veteran, he has a tale to tell about turning frustration into a mission.

Home health providers: Be sure not to miss the links we posted to a new COVID-19 resource page put together by BKD.

I hope you enjoy this week's podcast. I know you will find it enlightening. If you have a message you would like to get across, please get in touch. We welcome to our podcasts compelling stories to enlighten and inspire hardworking home care, home health, and hospice folks.

Please stay healthy. Keep making a difference!
