Volume 8, Number 43 December  4, 2019

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

Before I get to this week's news, I am pleased to introduce a new feature that I hope will gain traction and become a regular one. This week, when you click on the "Listen" button at the top of this column, you will hear, instead of my usual news summary, an interview with the founder of a new technology company. Cara Lunsford, RN, is the founder and CEO of HolliBlu Inc. Ms. Lunsford describes it as an online community for nurses. She developed it after working in hospitals, home health, and hospice and seeing that nurses needed support, encouragement, and opportunities for advancement. After you check it out, I would very much appreciate your feedback on two questions: 1) do you like this format? 2) would you like to be interviewed next? editor@homecaretechreport.com

In this week's news: Ohio continues to struggle to get EVV right. Though the federal deadline is a few weeks away, Ohio Medicaid started its program last February. We found out why they erased all 3rd-party alternate vendors from their approved list and started over with a new application and approval process. See Ohio Medicaid Restarts EVV Vendor Approval with Complia Health.

CMS wants home health agencies to know that time is running out to apply for an account on the Quality Improvement and Evaluation System (QIES). You need to read the entire CMS bulletin that we reproduced for you but, just in case you do not, here is the gist of it: failure to obtain access to iQIES by December 23rd will impact your agencies' ability to submit assessment data needed for claims matching purposes after January 1, 2020. Claims that cannot be matched to assessments will be returned to the HHA, delaying Medicare payment. The last thing you need in 2020 is delayed payments. Read it here: "iQIES Access Deadline Approaching - Provider Action Needed"

Vendor Watch
We have two announcements from the industry's vendors this week and they impact both private duty and Medicare/Medicaid providers. AlayaCare has forged integrations with two online education services, CareAcademy and Nevvon. In a surprise announcement, John Damgaard released a thank you letter to customers, saying he is stepping down as CEO of MatrixCare. Scroll down for the links to both of these news items.

While you are scrolling down this page, notice how many free webinars are scheduled between now and the end of the year, starting Thursday.

Worth the Trip
I am looking forward to meeting my Ohio readers next week. I will be delivering the keynote address at the Ohio Council of Home Care & Hospice's first annual "Com Care Con," a day to explore the importance of technology in post-acute care. Scroll down to our "Conferences" section for more information, or click here to register.

Peeking around the corner to 2020, Home Care 100 is set for January 19-22 in Miami. Information and registration can be found here. I am looking forward to seeing you there.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference.
