Happy 2023, Friends and Colleagues!
We are pleased to present our annual retrospective of your favorite articles from the past year. On occasion, we have tried to accompany this look-back with predictions for the new year, but they are almost always off the mark. We are in good company, though. Remember what George Burns, playing God, said to John Denver, playing grocery store manager Jerry Landers, when Denver asked, "You're God. Don't you know the future?" Burns said, "I do, the moment it becomes the past." We will be safe and predict only the obvious. The leading edge of Boomers will turn 77 in 2023. Hiring nurses and personal care workers will continue to be a challenge. Mergers and acquisitions will continue at a furious pace. Software sales cold calls will continue to match that pace.

One note about an editorial decision regarding this year's "most-read" list. By a large margin, the top eyeball catcher was our 2019 story about the ransomware attack that damaged the customers of one of the leading EMR vendors. That company has been acquired twice since the attack happened and the problem was repaired three years ago, so we decided it was too old and irrelevant to omit if from our Top 10 list. The company took plenty of criticism back then, and its remaining customers probably do not want to be reminded.
