Our top story this week is the acquisition of Delta Health Technologies by AlayaCare. We spoke with an AlayaCare VP for the background scoop.

I am pleased to present the next in my video interview series, "Meet the CEO." This time, I visited with Jim Bland, the CEO of a different kind of technology company. "Seniors Home Services" offers a menu of products and services, each of which can be both helpful to patients and clients and a revenue source for an agency. During my brief conversation with Jim, I learned about his company's home modification services, daily phone check-in's by nurses, fall detection and prevention systems, and a unique brain building program that helps with everything from memory retention to balance. Speaking of finding new revenue sources, I have two great news items about the HRSA grant to encourage vaccinations that I have been telling you about. HRSA just gave the grantee, the National Minority Health Association, permission to continue distributing cash rewards for each COVID vaccination shot through next May. It was originally to end on November 30. Plus, they can now extend those cash rewards retroactively for shots your workers and clients received as far back as July 1, 2021. The program that deploys home care workers as trusted messengers with trusted messages is called "Flex For Checks." Click on this link or call 877-770-6642.

Here is why this is meaningful. The federal mandate that healthcare workers must be vaccinated is going to present some of your in-home caregivers with a decision, maybe a tough one. If you are able to say, "We, your employer, joined Flex For Checks. If you get your first shot, they will pay you $75. When you get your second shot, you will get another $75, and you will get another $25 for every patient/client you sign up to get their shot," you will be helping them make that decision, and you will be attracting and retaining more caregivers. Also, as the participating agency, you will also get $25 for every registered shot your people receive, and another $25 for every patient/client vaccination they encourage as well. (I have even spoken with some caregivers who have gotten approval for a cash reward for their third shot.) Are you in pediatric home care? Now that vaccinations are approved down to age 5, the NMHA is working on a way to send money to parents when their children under 18 get their shot.

Do you remember me telling you about one Flex For Checks participant in Florida who has made it her mission to get her entire community vaccinated? I just heard she has earned $25,000 so far from the grant. Spread that story around and see your application numbers climb!



Staff writer Darcey Trescone continues to explore the staff shortage crisis. This week, her study of recent research focuses on the nursing shortage and offers some innovative suggestions to cope with it. Reading her report, your eyes might be drawn, as mine were, to her finding that 70 percent of job seekers said they want to work for a company that demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
