Volume 9, Number 46 October  28, 2020

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

Many of you know I was raised in Southern California. Forgive me if it shows that I am writing you late at night. I was busy watching the Dodgers win the World Series for the first time since 1988. Now to the news...

Honor is on the move again. In this week's Vendor Watch column, we report on their next round of financing, an impressive $140 million.

Guest author and friend of the Rowan Report and highly respected home health financial advisor Dave Macke sent us his detailed analysis of the new Medicare cost report form. Every Medicare provider will want to print it out and use it as a guide. Click below on "New CMS Medicare Cost Report Form for HHAs."

Of interest to all:
Every healthcare provider watched closely to the nomination and approval of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, with one eye toward November 10, when the court is scheduled to take up the case to revisit the Affordable Care Act. Texas and other Republican-led states sued the federal government, arguing that since the mandate was no longer tied to a specific tax penalty, the ACA had lost its legal underpinning. They also argued that because the individual mandate was intertwined with a multitude of other provisions, the entire law should fall, including protections for people with pre-existing conditions. The new justice is a self-described "originalist," but what exactly does that mean with regard to 21st century health insurance? We turned to our favorite expert, former insurance company executive Wendell Potter, to answer that question. Click below on "Putting the Upcoming ACA Supreme Court Case in Perspective."

When that proverbial adult daughter uses Google to find the highest-rated home care agency in your area for her mother, will she find you? When was the last time you checked your star rating, your reviews, your online reputation? Are you clear on the difference between Google Global and Google Local? Get a tune-up with online marketing consultant Roger McManus' new primer, "Why Google's Local Search is Key for Home Care Agencies."

Checking in with vendor news, we report on Sandata winning the EVV contract in North Carolina.

Worth the Trip

Please mark your calendars and join me when I moderate a webinar for our sponsor Care Connect on November 12. "How Technology Enhances Home Care in an Increasingly Remote World" will begin at 1:00 EST and go about an hour. Scroll down to the Conferences section for the details. Also in that section you will find a link to this year's Southwest Hospice and Homecare Conference & Exhibition in November and South Carolina's virtual conference in December.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!
