Volume 9, Number 46 October  21, 2020

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

In the news this week, many in-home care providers will be impacted by two acquisition announcements. Click below on both "Netsmart Acquires Tellus" and "Sandata Acquires Interactive Financial Solutions" to see if the news about the acquisitions by two familiar post-acute software companies of an EVV and aggregator company and an Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities software vendor, respectively, might reach your doorstep.

With the EVV mandate expanding to include Home Health providers in a little over two years, these acquisitions, and the one from HHAeXchange last week, will affect everyone.

Home Health

With PDGM nearing its first birthday, it is surprising to hear how many HHAs continue to use PPS-era operational practices. Guest author Arnie Cisneros, who presents Part 2 of his 4-part series on how to profit from PDGM this week, told us that he has guided some of his clients from a subsistence, or even a negative, profit margin to profitability by applying new clinical procedures that are both adapted to the present reimbursement model and mindful of our inevitable transition from volume to value. If PDGM seems to be stealing your revenue, be sure to click below on "Stop Nibbling at The Edges! Part 2."

In our Vendor Watch column, we feature an interview with Medalogix Chief Clinical Officer Cyndi Rizzitello about the release of that company's newest product, which is designed to give a data analysis booth to the same problem Arnie's article addresses.

If you have to submit a Medicare cost report, and especially if you operate multiple offices, a new service from CMS might make your life easier. We explain what it is and how you can take advantage of it in "Medicare Part A Cost Report: Learn How to Bulk e-File." In that same article, we give you the details about an October 29 CMS training webinar on the same subject.

In one of our rare editorial comments, I am asking for your feedback this week on my gut reaction to a CMS document that hit my email inbox and may also have reached yours on Monday. I've been observing a change in CMS language and choice of phrasing for the past several months in its news releases. Monday's was a measure beyond in my opinion. What do you think? Click on "CMS Document Appears to Improperly Promote One Candidate Over the Other."

Worth the Trip

Do not forget that a major, six-state association conference is coming up on November18-19. The Southwest Home Care & Hospice conference is the product of the associations from Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Utah, and the Arizona Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. Scroll down for the details. Or click here: hhau.org/event-3956737. This conference will be aimed at the need of medical and non-medical providers in these six states but I would bet, if you asked nicely, they would let you register from the other 44.

I will also be moderating an expert panel in another free webinar on November 12 for Care Connect. Scroll to the top of this page and click on their banner ad for the details about "How Technology Enhances Homecare in an Increasingly Remote World." You will be impressed with a lineup that includes Jim Rolla, SVP, VNSYNY Partners in Care.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!
