Volume 7, Number 44 September  12, 2018

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

I always pick up valuable ideas when I attend state association conferences. This week's meeting of the Ohio Conference for Home Care and Hospice was no exception. Here is one example. Arnie Cisneros, PT, told Ohio Medicare providers that one in three of them will be forced out of business by the year 2025. The president and founder of Home Health Strategic Management quoted some of his executive-level clients in large health systems, who are preparing for value-based payments and payment bundling, as saying that 85% of care will be delivered in the home prior to or following hospital stays by that year. These executives will only allow their health systems to partner with the top-rated in-home care providers. "Reducing the total number of home health agencies is all part of CMS's plan," he told them.

In this week's news: Mediware, the parent company of Fazzi Associates, Rock-Pond Solutions, and Kinnser Software and about 30 other software products, announced during its user group meeting this week a major re-branding effort that includes a corporate name change.

Partners Health has begun to promote this year's Connected Health Conference, set for October 17-19 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston. See inside for conference details and registration information. The main conference message is to promote a personal approach to health.

Speaking of Fazzi Associates, a new series of online courses is about to begin. Students can earn accredited certification in Home Health Case Management and Hospice Case Management. Members of ElevatingHome can register for a discount.

Worth the Trip
I need to tell you about a couple of events that should be on your calendar. In addition to the NAHC Annual Meeting in Grapevine, Texas on October 7-9, there are educational opportunities for your sales staff coming up soon.

Position Your Agency For Growth in 2018 & Beyond is this year's name for the HomeCareSales Growth Summit, presented by Melanie Stover, Cheryl Peltekis, and Jason Lewallen. October 3-5 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

If your educational requirements lean more toward compliance than sales, put this one on your "must" list. The 8th Annual Compliance Cruise, featuring a host of home care and hospice attorneys and consultants. By holding this event within the confines of The Royal Princess, students not only benefit from three full days of classes but all get access to the instructors for the entire week. The policy established eight years ago by the sponsoring law firm of Pearson and Bernard is that faculty will not ask for any consulting fees for any conversations conducted in a swimming pool or on a beach. See the complete brochure in the Partner News section of the Rowan Report web site.

Not up for a flight to Vegas or a Caribbean cruise? Stay home and learn from your desk or living room couch. We have a growing list of webinars that are available for free or a moderate fee. Scroll down on this page to see if one of the topics meets your needs. Upcoming opportunities are being offered by Netsmart, Curaport, Brightree and others.

As for me, I am packing for the HCAOA Annual Leadership Conference and looking forward to meeting my friends in private duty home care in Washington DC. If you are there, come to the Rowan Reputation Resources booth to learn about our system for growing your census.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!

To thrive in the regulatory climate today, it’s important to stay ahead of the changes and adjust your business model to face the challenges. That is why we invited Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP) to share the latest updates from CMS and to review the components of the proposed Patient-Driven Groupings Model (PDGM) program.
Using data from the SHP national database, Chris Attaya, vice president of product strategy, and Zeb Clayton, vice president of client services, will identify the expected winners and losers of the new model. They will share insights around the operational and clinical changes you need to consider to remain a vital organization. Teresa Craig, director of client strategy for Netsmart, will join the discussion to outline what you should expect from your EHR partner as you prepare for the new PDGM requirements.
Key Takeaways:

Date: Wednesday, September 26
Time: 1:00 pm CDT

The home care and hospice industry is increasingly competitive. The shift from “volume” to “value” means that agencies must increasingly focus on quality outcomes and prove their “worth” to customers and referral sources alike.  Agencies must have a robust quality program in place that identifies, tracks, and trends key metrics against agency goals.  Successful agencies not only have visibility into their current performance, but they continually modify and develop new strategies for improvement, while engaging their clinicians.
