Volume 8, Number 34 — September  11, 2019

Dear Health Care at Home Colleague,

My partner in my "Rowan Reputation Resources" venture, Roger McManus, and I were invited to attend the first educational conference hosted by Honor, the San Francisco technology company that is offering partnership opportunities to personal care home care company owners. Frankly, we expected a day of sales pitches about partnering but we were quite mistaken. From the nationally known keynote speaker to panel after panel of PhD's, geriatricians, medical school professors, researchers and even a city councilman, we and the audience of over 200 were saturated with high-level content and inspiring admonitions. I try to capture a bit of the day for you in "Top National Healthcare Experts Appear at First Annual 'Sage' Conference." There were some innovative product vendors as well. I'll review those for you in coming weeks.

Partly because of losing a day of writing to that conference, this week's Rowan Report is coming to you a day late but I still want to direct the attention of hospice providers to Thursday's CMS Special Open Door Forum. They will be discussing the Hospice Outcomes & Patient Evaluation (HOPE) tool and other topics related to the Hospice Quality Reporting Program. It starts at 2:00 EDT so hospice providers should stop reading right now and get the dial-in information from our reprint of the CMS announcement.

Urgent Advocacy Reminder: Your Help is Needed

In addition to two tech vendor announcements involving Wellsky, Playmaker, and KanTime, we are repeating in more detail this week an important appeal from Bill Dombi at NAHC. Two bills, one in the House and one in the Senate, would stop CMS from cutting your PDGM pay rate by 8.01% in January. Read the details in "Senate Bill 433 and House Bill 2573 - Call Washington Today!" As we say in the article, "When was the last time a phone call got you an 8% raise?"

Worth the Trip

September is a busy time but a great opportunity to meet my subscribers in various cities. I'll be at the "Growth Summit" hosted by Melanie Stover and Cheryl Petelkis of "Home Care Sales" in Las Vegas next week. This is an opportunity for both Medicare and Private Duty providers. From there, I head south to Tucson for the HCAOA's Annual Leadership Conference, the major event of the association for Private Duty and Personal Care providers.

If PDGM is still a frightening mystery to you, don't forget that one of our sponsors, Axxess, is offering one-day seminars in nine cities over the next two months. Last week's article with all the details is still available at "PDGM Action and Strategy Seminars Kicking Off."

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!
