Volume 8, Number 31 August  28, 2019

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

Medicare Home Health

I promote a lot of free webinars here on this page and on my company web site, RowanResources.com. This time, I am inviting Medicare Home Health providers to join me on my own free webinar. I'll have the registration details next week but, for now, just pencil in September 11 at 1:00 EDT on your calendar. I'll be talking about new technologies to help you thrive when episodes are 30 days and therapy no longer earns additional payments. My webinar will be sponsored by wound care technology company Swift Medical.

Private Duty Home Care

There are a lot of success stories in non-medical home care, but we have rarely come across one that might be titled, "From Personal Care Attendant to CEO." The new owners of SaviiCare avoided a fatal error so many VC and private equity investors commit, they hired someone with home care expertise to run their company instead of installing a finance expert with no healthcare experience. You will enjoy reading her plans for Savii as well as her PCA roots as she begins her second years as CEO. "Hard Work Pays Off for New Savii Chief"

Patient Engagement Technologies

What is the primary reason your non-medical and skilled nursing patients go to the hospital emergency department? I used to think it was falls related to medication mis-management but I learned recently it is fear and uncertainty. "What is this new pain all about?" Call the doctor, get his on-call associate, who always says, "You'd better go in." A new patient communication technology from Synzi might slash ED utilization by mitigating patient and family fear and uncertainty. Read about their video communication system in "New Care Coordination System Says 'Can We Talk?'"

CMS News

Guest author Elizabeth Hogue, Esq. offers a refresher for Medicare Home Health and Hospice providers in "How to Contest Survey Deficiencies." We also have an announcement from CMS for hospices in our "CMS News" column.

Worth the Trip

The "Society of Certified Senior Advisors" is an organization that offers training and certification to post-acute care providers, financial planners, and attorneys. Their annual conference this week in Portland, Oregon is a forum for all categories of senior services providers to come together and share experiences. Roger McManus and I will be speaking about Online Reputation Management.

We will also be sharing information about our Online Reputation Management system at the HCAOA meeting in Tucson, September 22-23. If competition, census growth and staff recruiting are high on your list, drop by and let's see if our system can help.

"Home Care Sales" still has some seats open for their 2019 training, "Growth Summit," Las Vegas, September 17-19. Cheryl Petelkis, RN, and Melanie Stover, OT, are highly respected sales trainers.

One of our sponsors, Axxess, is teaming with BKD to offer a series of PDGM trainings. You can find the list of the nine cities on their tour and get registration information here. I hope to see you at one of these events.

If you are on your way to San Diego this week for the 6th Annual Connected Health Conference, GrandCare has announced that CEO Laura Mitchell will participate in the session "Senior Tech Channels: Home Service Providers, Builders, Care Agencies" on Thursday, August 29 at 2:15pm.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!
