Volume 6, Number 32 June  21, 2017

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

Several important messages came out of Lincoln Healthcare Leadership's Post Acute Link conference, June 11-13. This week, we feature one of the more important of those messages, comments we heard in the closing session, "Exceptional Partnering with Health Systems." We found it important because the message was different from those we have heard before. Representatives from large home care and other post acute organizations described their successes and failures during their own learning process. Their advice will help others follow their strategies and avoid their mistakes.

It's early, but we are also tracking a bill making its way through the U.S. House of Representatives. It would make two major changes for home health agencies. One has to do with the way Face-to-Face certification is managed. The other adds an interesting wrinkle to claims appeals processing.

Special opportunity
This may be a little outside our usual area of expertise but we came across an interesting opportunity. Have you ever found the need for your clinicians to know a little Spanish? Yes, many of you employ fully bilingual workers but sometimes English speakers need to speak and understand a few health-oriented phrases too. I found a company called Fluency Fast that uses a unique teaching method, TPR Storytelling, to bring learners to a high level of proficiency in a few intense days. There are classes coming up in Denver and San Antonio in the Fluency Fast Summer Language Institute.

TPR Storytelling is a rapid language acquisition method for adults. It uses brain-friendly, long-term memory methods and fun and entertaining storytelling. High frequency vocabulary leads to immediate ability to communicate in Spanish.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!
