Volume 7, Number 33 May  30, 2018

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

Summer 18 begins with a full plate. Home Health is getting accustomed to new Conditions of Participation. Hospice is struggling with new payment rules. Private Duty home care continues to grow more competitive as it becomes eligible for Medicare Advantages payments. The EVV mandate is seven months away and some states have already implemented their chosen plan.

And it's an election year, with much at stake for all of healthcare as we wait to see whether the House, Senate and 39 Governorships will change parties in November.

Meanwhile, some change originates from within. Our lead story this week is about the acquisition of yet another home healthcare software vendor. As we reported in a breaking news bulletin Tuesday, ResMed is acquiring HEALTHCAREfirst. We also report on a push from some EVV vendors to advise states on better ways of implementing the EVV mandate.

In a piece about one of our sponsors, OperaCare, we outline a radical change in the way some agencies are completing OASIS assessments, with substantial time and cost savings once they get the hang of it. We also have an announcement by ClearCare about a major new product release to help their private duty customers coordinate patient care with other entities.

Personally, I am looking forward to the Lincoln Healthcare Leadership Post Acute 360 Strategy and Solutions conference at National Harbor, Maryland, June 25-27. I hope to see you there.

Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this page for a complete listing of conferences and webinars we have heard about.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!

The home care and hospice industry is increasingly competitive. The shift from “volume” to “value” means that agencies must increasingly focus on quality outcomes and prove their “worth” to customers and referral sources alike.  Agencies must have a robust quality program in place that identifies, tracks, and trends key metrics against agency goals.  Successful agencies not only have visibility into their current performance, but they continually modify and develop new strategies for improvement, while engaging their clinicians.
