Volume 6, Number 35 April  21, 2017

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

This will be short and sweet as this issue's articles speak for themselves. We are sending out this special edition because of the significance of the announcement made on Wednesday at the National Leadership Conference, sponsored jointly by the Visiting Nurse Associations of America and the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation. Below you will see links to a press release announcing the formation of a new national association for home-based care providers, "ElevatingHOME," which will be an umbrella organization of which the VNAA and the Alliance will be members and both for-profit and not-for-profit providers will be invited to join. (I told you it would be worth the trip to San Diego)

Following the unedited news release, you will find a link to my exclusive interview with Tracey Moorhead. She will serve as the President and CEO of the new organization and will continue through the transition with the same title at the VNAA, which she has held for four years.

Lastly, we could not let this occasion pass without offering our take on what it means to you. There is a history behind the idea to create a new national association that did not fully come out in the news release or the interview. The occasion seemed to call for more elaboration so I put my thoughts and memories together in one of my rare opinion pieces.

I would like to hear from you about this industry development. Send your comments to editor@homecaretechreport.com.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!

New National Association Launched for Home-Based Care Providers
Following two years of planning, the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurses Associations of America and the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation unveiled a new association, Elevating Home, to serve the needs of not-for-profit and for-profit providers of home-base care, including home health, hospice, and palliative care providers, in all 50 states. The Council of State Associations will also be a founding member.

Exclusive Interview with Tracey Moorhead, CEO of ElevatingHOME
In the middle of a busy, newsworthy 3-day National Leadership Conference, Tracey Moorhead to the time to speak with editor Tim Rowan for a few minutes to unpack the meaning of her April 19 announcement of the formation of "ElevatingHOME," a member-driven national association for providers of home health, hospice, and palliative care.

The ElevatingHOME Announcement: What It Means to You
The lawyers were confused. "Why are you inserting language about fiscal transparency and banning nepotism into the by-laws of your new organization? Nobody does that." "We are doing that," the Board of Directors of ElevatingHOME replied. More than any other statement in this week's special edition, this is the clue to why its founders believe a new national association is needed. In this rare opinion piece, editor Tim Rowan remembers a few other clues.
