Volume 5, Number 42 April  13, 2016

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

I got to experience in-home care services from the other side of the equation last week, which is why this issue has been delayed. I cannot say enough about the skilled professionals at Accredited Home Care in the San Fernando Valley. After my mother had to have a brief hospital admission, which included a series of misdiagnoses and unnecessary surgery recommendations that we had to fend off, Accredited's nurses and therapists swooped in and got Mom walking, eating and playing card games in a matter of days as though nothing had happened. Barry Berger and Michelle Hofhine run a top-notch organization and I am happy to thank them publicly.

Sales webinar:

Registration is open for a topical webinar for your sales professionals. "Diagnosis-Specific Selling Skills: Dx Sells!" will be presented on May 4 at 2:00 pm EDT, 11:00 am PDT by Melanie Stover, the president and COO of Home Care Sales by Powershot Training. I know Melanie and have heard her speak on similar topics a number of times. I can highly recommend that you gather your sales staff together, listen to her, ask her questions, and continue the discussion among yourselves afterward. To register, click on the blue "Free Webinar" ad on the right-side column on this page.

Because of that experience, I also got to watch Accredited's clinicians using their point-of-care software system from DeVero. It was timely as I had just interviewed another DeVero customer for the story that will appear in next week's issue about Kindred and Gentiva blending their various software systems together after last year's acquisition. Obviously it was a massive effort and I believe you will learn from their experience, as related to us by COO Brandon Ballew.

This week we have part two of our informative series by marketing consultant Roger McManus about the right and wrong ways to use Facebook to promote your business. By the time his 5-part series concludes, you will be an expert in using social media to grow your census, without having to buy Facebook ads unless you choose to.

Also, our telehealth reporter Audrey Kinsella has met an interesting medical researcher in the United Kingdom. Be sure to read her article on his post-acute care concept he calls "reablement."

Lastly, congratulations to William Deary; his Mid-West home health and hospice agency made Fortune Magazine's top 20 list of best places to work in health care.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!

The home care and hospice industry is increasingly competitive. The shift from “volume” to “value” means that agencies must increasingly focus on quality outcomes and prove their “worth” to customers and referral sources alike.  Agencies must have a robust quality program in place that identifies, tracks, and trends key metrics against agency goals.  Successful agencies not only have visibility into their current performance, but they continually modify and develop new strategies for improvement, while engaging their clinicians.
