Volume 6, Number 28 March  8, 2017

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

It was fitting that CMS announced the award of the next round of RAC contracts to three new collection agencies on October 31. Images of monsters knocking on your door, issuing ultimatums, seems to fit. Now that the regions have been assigned and contractors have begun to place information on their web sites, we took a closer look and are able to bring you a full report. In this week's lead story, you will find contact information, web site links, and the announcement of a March 21 webinar.

The critical news for us in Healthcare at Home is the change in the way CMS has decided to implement the law that instigated the RAC program this time around. The country will be divided into four regions, served by three contractors. Post-acute providers are excluded from that regional system. One of the three contractors, in addition to serving a region that includes New England through Ohio and Kentucky, will handle all audits for home health, hospice, home medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies in all regions.

In other news: A number of tech vendors have made important announcements this week. Please see our reports on news about Briggs partnering with MatrixCare, Ankota expanding its executive roster, and newcomer Excel Health announcing both a familiar name joining its Board of Directors and upcoming data analysis products for post-acute providers.

Worth the trip
Are you planning to join me at the National Leadership Conference, co-sponsored by the VNAA and the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation, April 19-21 in San Diego? I hear it is going to be a newsworthy event. Click here for more information.

If you prefer Orlando to San Diego, the annual meeting of the American Telemedicine Association is an important event that always has a strong post-acute focus. (Or, as you can see from the dates, you could theoretically attend both.) At Telehealth 2.0: The Transformation Advantage, you will meet well-known and startup remote patient marketing companies, April 23-25.
