Volume 7, Number 33 February  7, 2018

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

We are excited to welcome a new author to our team. Darcey Trescone makes her debut this week with an insightful article about the dangers of undervaluing the importance of implementation and training after the selection of a new Electronic Medical Record. In coming months, she will be contributing useful admonitions like this one based on her experiences as a home health nurse, as a software company product manager, and as a vendor VP of sales and marketing.

It is that time of year again. KLAS has released its "Best in KLAS" ratings. This year, we publish news about both the top vendor in the EMR category and in the Patient Outreach.

For non-medical, private duty home care providers, we present my own summary of a stellar presentation at Homecare 100 by Right at Home CEO Brian Petranick. He described his company's program to manage transitions for people moving from one center of care to another. What impressed me about his program is not just that it reduced hospital readmission but that he is getting hospitals to pay him to have their patients participate.

Lastly, do not miss the press release we are running about an upcoming event. Marcus Evans Summits produces a number of excellent conference each year. We thought this one is most related to the needs of our healthcare segment. It is set for May 20-22 in Orlando and will be aimed at C-Suite executives and include an impressive lineup of speakers.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!

The home care and hospice industry is increasingly competitive. The shift from “volume” to “value” means that agencies must increasingly focus on quality outcomes and prove their “worth” to customers and referral sources alike.  Agencies must have a robust quality program in place that identifies, tracks, and trends key metrics against agency goals.  Successful agencies not only have visibility into their current performance, but they continually modify and develop new strategies for improvement, while engaging their clinicians.
