Volume 6, Number 45 October  18, 2017

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

It was good to see everyone at this year's NAHC Annual Meeting, to learn about new products and new vendors, and to see some familiar faces in unfamiliar logo shirts. That's what I love about this meeting, you never know what you are going to learn and who you are going to meet.

Of particular interest this year was to see how the association planned to talk about the transition from the only president it has known for 35 years to the successor who has a much different leadership style. I will discuss my thoughts about how this was handled and how the plan for the future was presented in this week's lead article.

We also have a preview of the upcoming Connected Health Symposium, sponsored by Partners Health. Telehealth reporter Audrey Kinsella is on her way to Boston and will bring back news of the innovations presented there over the next few weeks.

Upcoming Compliance Conference
Compliance is on everyone's mind these days, whether your concern is Medicare rules or Wage and Labor Regulations. Home care attorneys Liz Pearson and Lucian Bernard are once again gathering an all-star lineup of expert consultants to teach a series of classes on the new Conditions of Participation, HIPAA regulations, labor and overtime laws, and how to keep your agency in compliance with all of them. Here's the best part. This 3-day conference takes place in the midst of a 7-day cruise. The annual Compliance Cruise sets sail from the port of Miami on Saturday, January 20 and returns the following Saturday. Ports of call will include Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mexico. If you would like to join us, contact Lucian Bernard at lou@pblaw.org.

I'd like to close with a personal note to thank readers who took a moment in Long Beach last week to express their condolences over the passing of my wife. I gathered a lot of strength from the many reminders that we all operate within a community of caring people. When one person among us needs to see that caring expressed, it is expressed without hesitation.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference! It is good to be back.
