Volume 7, Number 6 January  8, 2018

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

Here's to a healthy and prosperous 2018 for our entire field. Let there be better clinical documentation, more responsive referring physicians and hospital discharge planners, software that keeps everyone in compliance, and a surplus of trained caregivers!

One can dream, can't one?

In this week's news: At the beginning of a new year, the news is always about Medicare and Medicaid regulatory changes. Details about the new Conditions of Participation are available everywhere, so we bring you instead excerpts from an interview with CMS administrator Seema Verma. She is without a boss at the moment but anticipates that the Senate will confirm the nomination of former pharmaceutical executive Alex Azar. There are those with strong opinions about HHS being led for the first time in 65 years by a drug company president instead of the usual governor or physician. We post their positions alongside those of Ms. Verma so you can decide for yourself.

In two other announcements for the new year, CMS has clarified its rule about texting patient information and announced an online data submission system for clinicians in the quality payment program.

Worth the trip
It may be too late to register for this year's Compliance Cruise, organized by attorneys Elizabeth Pearson and Lucien Bernard but, just in case, here is the URL: http://pblaw.org/product/compliance-cruise-vii-january-20-27-2018/.

If I don't see you at sea, look for me the following week at Homecare100 in Orlando.

Have a great week. Keep making a difference!

Designing successful bundles without collaboration between inpatient and post-acute (PAC) providers inhibits the cost-savings opportunities that make bundled payment a valuable model for hospitals and health systems.
