Volume 6, Number 43 — January  11, 2017

Dear Healthcare at Home Colleague,

My marketing adviser has urged me to take advantage of Facebook's live video capability as another way to keep you informed of breaking news. I am going to experiment with it this week while I am speaking at the Sixth Annual Compliance Cruise, organized by attorneys Lucian Bernard and Liz Pearson. I expect to learn a lot from them and the other presenters between my talks about technology and compliance. If you have an interest in putting up with my smiling face while getting these updates, simply follow Home Care Technology Report on Facebook. It will let you know when I am live with these reports and how you can watch the recordings.

Before previewing this week's news, one more personal note, if I may. I know there are thousands of excellent in-home care providers out there and that it may be unfair to single out just one. But I cannot speak highly enough about the care provided to my mother over the last two months by Accredited Home Care of Woodland Hills and Pasadena, California. The expertise of nurse Marisa and therapist Patty were the best I've seen. And Mom loves Esther, whom she calls "my bath lady." To Barry Berger, Michelle Hofhine and team, a sincere thanks. (By the way, Mom is doing quite well today...at 92.)

In this week's news: So far, the challenge facing hospice-based palliative care providers has not been resolved. However, we have contacted the Center to Advance Palliative Care, which, along with other organizations, has been advocating to CMS to consider the unique circumstances of hospice- and other community-based care providers and adjust reporting requirements under MIPS accordingly. We print their eloquent argument this week and will speak with them next week. Stay tuned.

In the mergers, acquisitions and interface department, there are major announcements this week from HEALTHCAREfirst, The Corridor Group, Qualis Management, and Transpirus.

We welcome a new guest author in this issue. Rob Love, an executive with DeVero, presents a strong case for adding "Clinician Satisfaction" to the Triple Aim. Clinicians will love his argument.

We also heard another of our occasional guest writers has joined forces with one of our sponsors. Scott Herrmann is soon to be announced as the West Coast sales rep for MatrixCare, the parent company of Soneto. We are looking forward to Scott's next insightful article for our readers.

Speaking of insightful, do not forget the webinar we told you about last week. Curaport is hosting Medicare appeals consultant Michael McGowan to help you understand why your claims are denied and what you should be doing about it. Details on registration, schedule and the nominal cost are found here: Compliance Webinar Announced.

Have a great week. I'll see you on Facebook. Keep making a difference!
